AOLE: Language, literacy and communication (LLC)
English
This year, learners will build upon the foundations established in their primary education. Developing our learners’ oral and written communication, both independently and within a group context, is a key
focus. Through a range of themes, learners work at gaining a firm grasp of basic technical accuracy (punctuation, spelling, and grammar) and securing their understanding of the difference between informal and formal language. They
will also develop a range of reading strategies to enable them to become confident readers, who can begin to infer meaning and analyze writers’ techniques.
Welsh and French
During language lessons at St John Lloyd learners will develop as confident and ambitious users of the target languages, developing, strengthening and improving what was learnt in KS2 in Welsh and getting to grips with the basics
in French. New topics such as Calendr Cymreig, A French Christmas and Arch-anifeiliaid (Super pets) will spark interest and fire imaginations. We believe that the fun element is key to successfully learning a language and we use
a range of methods to ensure retention of key vocabulary and phrases, from Wordwall, to Quizlet, games on the board, bingo and Kahoot.
